Smithfield, Virginia honors its past each year with the Smithfield Olden Days. In 2004, the event occurred on Memorial Day weekend. Some of the activities held in Smithfield that weekend were an antique car show and a parade. At the same time, American Legion Post 49 was holding its dedication ceremony for the World War Two Memorial. At the request of Post 49, VMPA set up a display of World War II vehicles and memorabilia in support of the event, and members with non-World War II military vehicles came out to attend the parade and the classic vehicle show. Photos in this gallery were provided by VMPA members Lee Barlow and Brian Crawford, with the exception of the P40 aircraft picture, which was provided by Jerry Yagen from the Fighter Factory.
2004 Fourth of July Parade
Some of our members participated in the Fourth of July parade in Yorktown, Virginia. Below are photos showing some of our vehicles in the parade, courtesy of Pete Thompson and Diane MacKenzie.
2004 Wings and Wheels Show
Hampton Roads Airport held its 2004 "Wings and Wheels Show" and VMPA was there in force with both vehicles and re-enactors. We had our first ever PMCS class, using Adrian Winget's Desert Storm era 2.5 ton tuck, and afterwards had our first driver training class. Driver training went very well. After a brief ride down the gravel path with club member Chuck James at the wheel, Robert Bruce took over for an off-road action drive. We also gained a new member, Harry Barberry, who owns a 1965 M35 2.5 ton.
